According to an unknown source on the internet, the Arnold House was built
in 1882; the address now is 115 W. Erie Street. It would appear that M.A.
Arnold built this new hotel, and soon afterwards the family suffered at
least one loss. In 1885, only three years after the completion of the new
hotel, Mrs. Arnold died of consumption, or what we know today as
tuberculosis. Being that they were hotel keepers, they more than likely
also lived there in either an upstairs, or downstairs family quarters and
this is likely where Clara Arnold died.
The following is from a newspaper clipping from the Linesville Herald,
preserved by the Linesville Historical Society, Crawford Co., PA:
ARNOLD - In Linesville, February 4, 1885, died of consumption, Mrs. Clara,
wife of M. A. Arnold, aged 37 year, 4 months, and 13 days.
There are no census records available in the USA for 1890 and by the next
obtainable census in 1900 the family is no longer there, in fact Linesville
is not even listed separately in Crawford Co., PA.

1910 census for North East Township, Erie Co., PA lists Milo A. Arnold, his
wife Minnie, his daughters, Bessie and Kate, as well as another daughter
Mille age 9 and his son from the first marriage, Varney Arnold age 34.
According to posted family trees, daughter Rose married a man named
Truesdale and moved to NY.
In the 1920 census for North East Township, Erie Co., PA Varney Arnold is now married and has three children.
Clara Arnold, age 37 and her small child both died while living at the Arnold House. Records from the Linesville Cemetery show that Milo A. Arnold purchased a family cemetery plot consisting of 6 graves located in Section D, Row 44. The plots are listed as #2 - #7. Due to the age and deterioration of the records, the date of the purchase is unclear, but the amount paid was $2.85 per plot, indicating a purchase between 1880-1885. Clara Arnold is buried in plot # 4 and her stone is inscribed with a birth date of 9-21-1847 and her death date of 2-4-1885. The remaining plots are all empty except for the one preceding Clara’s, #3, which indicate that the Arnold’s indeed had a child who was born after the 1880 US Census and died before Clara in 1885. The stone for this grave is listed in the records as ‘Unreadable’
